  • Music

The NCC Performance and Instrumental Music Program is a performance-based program that engages students in learning an instrument or voice from Year 1 to Year 12. The program offers students either individual, paired or small group tuition with a specialist teacher, and involvement in various bands, choirs and ensembles. This program seeks to provide students with outstanding opportunities to grow in their musicality and confidence, as well as the fundamental aim of the college to grow each student’s character.

    Performing groups

All students are invited to participate in College Music Groups. Students wishing to join College Music Groups will be invited to join a group appropriate to their playing ability. Members of College Music Groups must be having lessons with a qualified Music Teacher (not necessarily at NCC, but this is encouraged). All students learning through the College Performance & Instrumental Music Program must make themselves available to join a music group.

    Performance Groups include:
    • Junior School Band (Year 5 to Year 6)
    • Middle School Band (Year 7 to Year 9)
    • Wind Symphony (Secondary School by invitation)
    • Stage Band (Secondary School by invitation)

    Year 4 Instrumental Music Program

All students in Year 4 participate in the Instrumental Music Program, where students are provided with the opportunity to learn to read music, play an instrument, and experience performing in an ensemble.

Instrument allocation is organised by the Head of Performance & Instrumental Music based on student preferences and instrument availability.

Student preferences will be taken into consideration, and every effort is made to provide them with their preferred instrument; however, this will not always be the case.

    Instruments offered include:
    • Clarinet
    • Flute
    • French Horn
    • Saxophone
    • Percussion
    • Tuba
    • Euphonium
    • Trombone
    • Trumpet

*The Year 4 Instrumental Program tuition occurs during normal classroom time in the Abbenbroek Building.
